Agency for Rational Energy Use and Ecology (ARENA-ECO)
ARENA-ECO is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded to promote energy efficiency and environmental protection in Ukraine. Their objectives include participation in the development and implementation of national energy and environmental policies, introducing energy saving and ecologically safe technologies, instruments and equipment, and promotion of domestic and foreign business in the sphere of efficient energy usage and environmental protection.

The Alliance to Save Energy
The Alliance to Save Energy is a nonprofit organization founded in 1977 to promote the efficient use of energy to strengthen America's economy, improve the environment, make housing more affordable and move the country toward energy independence.

The Alliance works to increase the efficiency of new and existing residential, commercial and federal buildings and the use of energy-efficient lighting by small- and medium-sized businesses.  They evaluate and support utility-sponsored consumer education programs; ensure that energy efficiency is considered in energy policy decisions and promote a more level playing field for energy efficiency investments. 

The Alliance also helps small- and medium-sized manufacturers improve their energy efficiency; give companies that provide energy efficiency products and services a voice in national and regional affairs; encourage communication among industry leaders, policymakers and the media to increase support for energy efficiency issues; and increase trade and investment opportunities for U.S. businesses in developing countries and emerging democracies.

American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy
The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACE3) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing energy efficiency as a means of promoting both economic prosperity and environmental protection. Conference proceedings, research reports, books, press releases, mini-reports, legislative alerts, and conference information are available on this system.

American Hydrogen Association
The American Hydrogen Association (AHA) is a non-profit association of individuals and institutions, technical and non-technical, who are dedicated to the promotion of the clean hydrogen energy system.

American Solar Energy Society (ASES)
The ASES maintains information on solar energy applications and technologies and provides access to publications on this information server. Solar Today is free and published bi-monthly. Information on solar conferences can be found there.

Association of Energy Engineers
AEE is your gateway for information on the dynamic field of energy efficiency, energy services, deregulation, facility management, plant engineering, and environmental compliance.  AEE is dedicated to remaining in the forefront of an ever-changing interrelated network of industries.

Association of Energy Services Professionals
The Association of Energy Services Professionals (formerly the Association of Demand-Side Management Professionals) is an association of utility executives, consultants, manufacturers, researchers, government regulators, and others concerned with promoting energy efficiency and value.  AESP conducts training courses, topical conferences and workshops and publishes reports and books.

Association of Power Producers of Ontario (APPrO)
APPrO represents 95 percent of Ontario's electricity market. The site provides information on Solar, Wind, Small Hydro, Co-generation and Biomass energy as well as Energy Services and District Heating and Cooling.

Battelle Memorial Institute
Battelle, which operates Pacific Northwest Laboratory, conducts work in the following areas: energy and environment, health and life sciences, national security, and transportation and space.

Beijing Energy Efficiency Center
The Beijing Energy Efficiency Center (BECon), established in 1993, is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization. The goal of BECon is to promote energy efficiency and environmental protection in China, and to act as a bridge to share information and experiences between China and abroad. The objectives of the Center include policy making; facilitating commercial activities related to energy efficiency, including technology transfer, joint ventures and foreign investment; organizing appropriate training and demonstration projects; and coordinating and developing educational activities in energy efficiency, including distribution of publications, public education, and seminars.

BECon activities include policy research; market services, involving market surveys; consulting services; information dissemination; training and technical demonstration.

California Institute for Energy and Environment (CIEE)
CIEE plans, coordinates, and implements applied research to advance productivity and competitiveness through energy efficiency. As a University of California research unit administered by the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, CIEE was established in 1988 in cooperation with the California utilities, the California Public Utilities Commission, the California Energy Commission, and the U.S. Department of Energy. Carbon Balanced Organization by World Land Trust
The World Land Trust, as a conservation charity, has been concerned with emissions reductions, and the Carbon Balanced Programme was set up by the WLT to provide assistance to businesses and people in reducing emissions, while funding conservation projects throughout the world.

Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESEN)
CIESEN is a non-governmental organization with members from leading universities and non-government research organizations who are dedicated to furthering the interdisciplinary study of global environmental change.  Since 1998 it has been a department within Columbia University.

Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry
Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI), a non-profit organization, was established in November 1951 as an integrated research organization to support the electric power industry of Japan. Since then CRIEPI has been actively involved in broad ranges of R&D fields, contributing to the development of electric power industries and social welfare.

Earth Vision
Earth Vision was designed by the Global Environment & Technology Foundation, a non-profit organization founded in 1988, dedicated to help solve environmental problems through the use of technology. Among its many projects, GETF created GNET, the Global Network of Environment & Technology, an award-winning on-line environment and business center, and TechKnow, an easy to use database that allows users to share and access data on environmental technologies on the Web. Earth Vision is a marketplace for ideas, news and environmental goods, where partners provide expertise, knowledge, products and services. EcoNet
EcoNet serves organizations and individuals working for environmental preservation and sustainability. EcoNet builds coalitions and partnerships with individuals, activist organizations and non-profit organizations to develop their use of the electronic communications medium.

EcoNet also maintains links to environmental organizations on the Internet, some commercial sites, and environment-related information sources.

Efficient Windows
The Efficient Windows web site is sponsored by the Efficient Windows Collaborative (EWC) with support from the U.S. Department of Energy's Windows and Glazing Program and the participation of industry members. This web site provides unbiased information on the benefits of energy-efficient windows, descriptions of how they work, and recommendations for their selection and use.

Electric Drive Transportation Association
The EDTA is an international association representing the interests of those involved in the development, production and use of battery, hybrid and fuel cell electric drive technologies and supporting infrastructure.  EDTA serves as the central source of information on all of the technical, market and policy issues surrounding the emergence of electric drive technologies. 

The Electricity Journal and Daily
The Electricity Journal and Daily are sponsored by Electricity On-Line which provides information on policy issues and news that affect the electricity industry worldwide. While the publications are available by paid subscription the site offers free samples of both Electricity Daily and the Electricity Journal. Also available on the site is Energy RFPs, that provides access to a range of requests for proposals, and PowerRates, an interactive cost comparison tool with tariff data sheets for electric utilities throughout the U.S.

Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)
EPRI was founded in 1973 as a non-profit energy research consortium for the benefit of utility members, their customers and society.  It manages scientific and technological R&D programs, to help address environmental challenges, open up new business opportunities, and meet the needs of energy customers.  See listing under the section Electric and Gas Utilities and Related Industries.

The El Paso Solar Energy Association
The purpose of the El Paso Solar Energy Association is to further the development and application of solar energy and related technologies with concern for the ecologic, social and economic fabric of the region (West Texas, Southern New Mexico, Northern Mexico). It is a membership association which meets monthly and produces a newsletter.

Energy Conservation Center of Japan (ECCJ)
The Energy Conservation Center, Japan is engaged in a wide range of activities, including research, public relations, publishing, education, training, technical development, consulting and information service, as the core of Japan's energy conservation promotion efforts.  English-language information on this site includes a profile of ECCJ and details of Japan's implementation of the international energy star program.

Energy Efficient Building Association
EEBA is an International non-profit educational organization dedicated to promoting the development of energy efficient and environmentally responsible buildings and communities worldwide. EEBA promotes environmentally respectful development through information dissemination, training, and providing Criteria for use by the housing industry, consumers and governmental agencies.

This site provides information on EEBA Criteria, a program that provides guidance for design, construction and comprehensive rehabilitation (gut-rehab) of low-rise residential and small commercial buildings less than 20,000 square feet (1900 M2) floor area.

The Energy Group
The Energy Group aims to promote better energy and environmental management worldwide, by organizing workshops, producing 'best practice' guides and running the Nigeria Energy Training Program.  The web site lists events, projects, clients and partners, and also provides course descriptions and a download facility.

Energy Management Association of New Zealand
The Energy Management Association of New Zealand (EMA) is dedicated to the promotion of efficient and sustainable energy use. The Energy Management Association has been formed as a technical group of the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ). Membership is open to all people and organizations in the energy management industry whatever their backgrounds, as well as catering for professional engineers. This site contains information on EMA's membership, newsletters, and links to a variety of energy resources in New Zealand.

EnergyNet
EnergyNet is a network science project, in which school students from grades 3-5 act as 'Energy Detectives' and students from grades 6-12 participate in 'Energy Auditing'.  They collate data on their school's energy usage, and share it over the Internet. Students form scientific research communities in which they learn about the production, cost, and management of energy.

Energy.ru
This web site has pages of news and articles, and lists of organizations and conferences related to energy efficiency and climate issues in Russia.

EnviroLink
EnviroLink is an environmental information service reaching millions of people in over 150 countries.  EnviroLink has grown from a mailing list to a web site providing resources on a wealth of environmental topics.  These resources include articles, lists of events, e-mail lists, government resources and directories of organizations and publications.

O.O. Energiespareverband (ESV)
ESV is an Austrian non-profit association with 31 members from the energy industry, energy consultancies, professional associations and enterprises involved in energy technology. Their objectives are to promote the rational and ecological use of energy and the use of renewable energy, while disseminating information about new developments in energy technology. ESV targets private households, the trade industry (esp. SMEs), local, regional and national authorities, the European Commission, and professional associations in Austria.

European Forum for Renewable Energy Sources (EUFORES)
EUFORES is a non-profit organization aimed to take any needed measures to promote renewable energy sources throughout the European Union.  Its aim is to pursue the target outlined in the 1994 Declaration of Madrid to substitute 15 percent of conventional primary energy demand with renewable energy by 2010.  The web site has information on projects, meetings, EU policy on renewable energy sources,  and also publishes its own newsletter 'Renewables.'

Export Council for Energy Efficiency (ECEE)
The mission of the Export Council for Energy Efficiency is to promote the export of energy efficient products, services, and technologies worldwide. It is made up of five non-profit organizations that advocate energy efficiency: Alliance to Save Energy, the International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC); the National Association of Energy Service Companies (NAESCO); the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO); and the Solar Energy Research and Education Foundation (SEREF). Included in this site are lists of worldwide energy events, publications, and favorite links. 

Finnish Wind Power Association
The Finnish Wind Power Association was founded in 1988 to promote the use of wind energy in Finland. The web site is in Finnish, but does have a few pages translated into English, including information on Finnish wind power companies, upcoming projects and Finnish wind power links.

Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy (ISE)
ISE develops components, materials, and processes for various areas of solar energy use.  It has a staff of approximately 400, making it the largest solar energy research institute in Europe.  The web site provides information on the institute, including pages on its history and partners, areas of business, publications, press and media (including the Fraunhofer magazine), information for students interested in solar energy and solar links.

Gas Technology Institute (GTI) 
GTI is a leading research, development and training organization serving the natural gas industry.  It works with customers to find, produce, move, store, and use natural gas.  The web site features a newsroom, sections on research capabilities, products and services, training and conferences, commercial opportunities, membership, and reports, publications and software.

Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium
The Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium's aim is to increase awareness of Geoexchange Technology.  Geoexchange Technology is a technique which relies primarily on the earth's natural thermal energy to heat and cool houses or multi-family dwellings.  The Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Energy and the California Energy Commission all endorse Geoexchange Technology.  The web site acts as a resource for anyone wanting to know more about Geoexchange Technology.

Global Energy Network Institute (GENI)
GENI conducts research and educational activities related to the international and inter-regional transmission of electricity, with a specific emphasis on the interconnection of renewable energy resources.

Global Network of Environment and Technology (GNET)
GNET was developed by the Global Environment & Technology Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and use of technology to achieve environmentally sustainable development. Sponsored in part by the Global Environmental Technology Enterprise, a U.S. Department of Energy initiative, GNET was created to assist government scientists and researchers to commercialize innovative environmental technologies.

Instituto de Investigaciones Electricas, Mexico
The Instituto de Investigaciones Electricas' main activity is to carry out projects of applied technological development for the electrical sector.  Its main clients are The Federal Commission of Electricity (CFE), Light and Force of the Center (LyFC) and the Mexican Oil Company (Pemex.)  This site contains information regarding their services and organizational make-up, research, clients, products, and publications.

International District Energy Association
The purpose of the International District Energy Association is to promote energy efficiency and environmental quality through the advancement of district heating and cooling. The Association's membership consists of representatives from utilities, municipalities, universities, hospitals, military bases, airports, industrial parks, and other physical plant systems engaged in the supplying of thermal energy in the form of steam, and hot and chilled water for heating, cooling and process uses. It also represents architects, engineers, financial, legal, management consultants, and manufacturers who supply services and equipment for community energy systems.

International Geothermal Association
The International Geothermal Association (IGA) encourages research, development and utilization of geothermal resources worldwide through the compilation, publication and dissemination of scientific and technical data and information, both within the community of geothermal specialists and between geothermal specialists and the general public. This site contains both resources maintained in-house and links to other geothermal Internet sites.

International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC)
The IEEC works to foster economically and environmentally sustainable development through the implementation of energy-efficient policies, technologies, and practices in developing and transition countries. IIEC's service areas include Climate Change, Sustainable Habitat, Energy Efficiency, Pollution Prevention (E2P2), Renewable and Distributed Energy, and Demand Side Management.

International Solar Energy Society (ISES)
The ISES was founded in 1954 and works in the field of research, utilization and promotion of renewable energy worldwide. Currently there are more than 30,000 members in over 50 national sections in over 100 countries. The web site lists ISES projects, events, and membership information.

International Utility Efficiency Partnerships, Inc. (IUEP)
The goal of the IUEP, set up in 1995, is to reduce emissions by identifying, coordinating and providing funding for the development of international environmentally-friendly energy development projects. The IUEP runs the International Power Partnership Initiative (IPP) which provides funding for projects to reduce emissions that cause climate change.  The IUEP is also linked to the Edison Electric Institute and the Department of Energy.

National Association of Energy Services Companies (NAESCO)
NAESCO seeks to promote the delivery of Energy Service Companies to maximize customer benefits and environmental sustainability. The association advocates sound legislative and regulatory policies at the federal and state levels to promote the cost effective delivery of comprehensive energy services to all customers. As the Energy Service Industry's advocate, NAESCO disseminates information about developing technologies and their application as well as provides opportunities to share and publicize ESCO project successes.

National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO)
NASEO is a non-profit corporation composed of energy officials from the state energy offices and affiliates from private and public sectors. NASEO informs the administration, Congress and national organizations about state energy priorities and concerns. The Association provides forums and meetings for energy officials, policy makers and others.

National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER)
The NBER, founded in 1920, is a private, non-profit, non-partisan research organization dedicated to providing a greater understanding of how the economy works.  Its web site contains free abstracts of its working papers.  Full copies can be obtained either by subscription of for a per paper fee.  It also has full and free copies of government data releases, the NBER Digest, and the NBER Reporter published on the web site.

National Energy Foundation
The National Energy Foundation is an independent educational charity in the UK dedicated to the safe, innovative and efficient use of energy. Their main focus is on renewable energy and energy efficiency.  Their projects and services include a helpdesk for those wanting information on developing renewable energy for their homes, an energy bus that tours the area around Milton Keynes with renewable energy advice called the "Green Energy Machine", and an energy efficient accreditation scheme which recognizes the achievements in energy efficiency of industry, commerce and the public sector.  The web site also features a CO2 calculator and an energy rating service.

National Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET)
Resnet is a national network of mortgage lenders, homebuilders, real estate firms as well as housing and energy professionals, dedicated to improving the energy efficiency of the United States' housing stock and to qualify more families for home ownership by expanding the availability of mortgage financing options and home energy ratings. RESNET's web site contains information on the latest developments in the field of residential energy financing, and other topics related to residential energy efficiency.

Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)
The NRDC uses law, science and the support of more than seven million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places, and ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things.  The web site pages include information on clean air and energy, global warming, clean water and the oceans, nuclear weapons and waste, and environmental legislation.

Nova Scotia Environmental Industry Association
The Nova Scotia Environmental Industry Association (NSEIA) is a province-wide business organization whose purpose is to promote environmental products and services and contribute to sustainable development in Nova Scotia. The web site has information on upcoming events, links to energy related organizations in Nova Scotia and Worldwide, and provides a number of services for its members.

Petroleum Technology Transfer Council (PTTC)
PTTC is a national non-profit organization formed by the U.S. oil and natural gas industry to accelerate the transfer of technology information to domestic oil and natural gas producers and communicate their technical needs to the R&D community. Funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Energy through its management and operating contractor, BDM-Oklahoma Inc., state governments, industry donations, the Gas Research Institute, and in-kind contributions from sources including major U.S. universities and state geological surveys.

The PTTC regions also host technical workshops, provide industry outreach in the form of newsletters, information systems, technical forums, on-line surveys, feedback mechanisms, and regional support groups.

Renewable Energy Policy Project
The Renewable Energy Policy Project (including crest) is a policy research organization.  Its mission is to accelerate the use of renewable energy by providing insightful information, policy analysis, innovative strategies, and holding discussion groups.   The web site covers all areas of renewable energy, as well as providing access to publications, and listing links to other related organizations.

Resources for the Future (RFF)
Since 1952, RFF scholars have been asking—and answering—tough questions, looking over the intellectual horizon, and providing successive generations of policy, business, environmental, and civic leaders with the core tools and fundamental approaches they need to improve environmental policymaking worldwide. Organizational information, discussion papers, and recent publications are available on this server, as well as information on RFF seminars.

Rocky Mountain Institute
The Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) is an entrepreneurial nonprofit research organization created to foster the efficient and sustainable use of natural, human and other capital to make the world more secure, just, prosperous, and life sustaining . This server maintains information under the headings 'Activities and Audiences', 'Areas of Impact', and 'Resources.'

SEVEn - The Center for Energy Efficiency
SEVEn is a non-governmental, non-profit organization with a mission to promote the twin goal of protecting the environmental situation and improving economic development of the Czech Republic by increasing the efficiency of energy use.

Society of Petroleum Engineers
The primary mission of the Society of Petroleum Engineers is to collect, disseminate, and exchange technical information concerning the development of oil and gas resources, and to provide opportunities through its programs for interested individuals, to maintain and upgrade their individual technological competence in the aforementioned areas, for the public benefit.  The web site includes information on meetings and conferences, technical resources, career development, and products and services.

Solar Design Associates (SDA)
Solar Design Associates (SDA) promotes solar energy and sustainable development by providing design, engineering, construction management, and technical support services to architects, electricity utilities, private clients and developers.  Its capabilities include building design, engineering, sustainable development, project management, product innovation and education.

Solar Energy International
Solar Energy International, a non-profit organization based in Carbondale, CO.  We provide top quality hands-on workshops for people interested in utilizing renewable energy.  Our workshops are located throughout the United States and abroad.

The mission of the Southface Energy Institute is to promote the development of sustainable homes and communities through education, research, advocacy, and technical assistance.

Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI)
SEI is an independent, international research institute specializing in sustainable development and environmental issues.  It works at the local, national, regional, and international levels.  Its research programs aim to clarify requirements, strategies and policies for a transition to sustainability.  SEI's mission is to "support decision-making and induce change towards sustainable development around the world by providing integrative knowledge that bridges science and policy in the field of environment and development."   SEI's main program areas are Atmospheric Environment, Climate and Energy, Water Resources, Sustainable Development Studies, and Risk and Vulnerability. It has a number of centers across the world which work on specific areas of the above programs:

SEI Stockholm is the focal point for the institute's research programs.  Its particular areas of study include biotechnology, energy resources, atmospheric environment, and ozone layer protection.

SEI Asia was established January 1st, 2004.  Its programs are structured on regional lines, such as its program for the Mekong region.  It is also developing integrated programs with South Asia and ASEAN.

SEI Boston has four main research areas: sustainable development strategies, energy environment and climate, water and development, and the capacity for impact assessment and management program (CIAM).  It has developed numerous software tools including:

Tellus Institute
Tellus Institute is a team of scientists, planners and policy analysts organized into a non-profit research and consulting organization addressing resource management and environmental issues. The Tellus energy group is organized into four research groups:

World Coal Institute (WCI)
The World Coal Institute is a non-governmental, non-profit association of coal producers and consumers from around the world.  Background information on the coal industry, clean coal technologies, and sustainable development is available on this site.

World Energy Efficiency Association
The World Energy Efficiency Association (WEEA) is private, non-profit organization composed of developed and developing country institutions and individuals charged with increasing energy efficiency. WEEA was formed to: (1) to assist developing countries in accessing information on energy efficiency, (2) serve as a clearinghouse for information on energy efficiency programs, technologies and measures, (3) disseminate this information worldwide, and (4) publicize international cooperation efforts in energy efficiency. World Resources Institute (WRI)
The World Resources Institute is an independent, non-profit organization with a staff of more than 100 scientists, economists, policy experts, business analysts, mapmakers, and communicators working to protect the Earth and improve people's lives.  It conducts a host of projects, of which the website lists a sampling.
