Examples of activities include: optimization of heat exchangers for the industrial sector, improvement of energy management systems and development of infra-red techniques for drying. Also involved in urban planning, thermal regulation of new residential and commercial buildings, incentives to retrofitting, and improvement of existing buildings. Recent priorities include transportation, electricity savings in buildings, as well as increasing the contribution of wood energy. Internationally: Involved in cooperation program that includes providing technical assistance to developing and Eastern European countries for capacity building and training. Promotes international education by conducting training and supporting research centers such as the Asian Institute of Technology. Conducts R&D exchanges between OECD countries. Provide support to pilot programs in the domain of PV or other renewable energy for rural electrification, participant in IEZ implementing agreements.
