Overview of Current Activities:

Undertakes objective, independent economic analyses of energy issues and studies of the economic and environmental impacts of energy and related policies on Canada in general, and on Canada's international competitiveness.

Serves as a forum for industry and government interaction in energy policy problem-solving and interfacing all aspects of energy technologies. Provides analysis to assist government and business in policy formulation and future planning. Sponsors research forums to select timely and relevant issues.

Performs economic analyses of energy issues, especially in relation to policy; maintains a solid knowledge base and network for information exchange; conducts training and personnel exchanges; sponsors conferences; gives assistance to sponsors; applies analyses internationally.

Conducts upstream oil and gas sector supply analyses and modelling, with focus on Canada, North America and the global situation. Recent studies include: analysis of U.S. electric utility experiences with DSM; the implications of clean coal technologies for electric power development; and the implications of DSM for gas utilities and regulatory bodies.

Conducts transportation studies which include: development trends and opportunities; review of transportation demand management policy options; electric vehicles; and the economic and environmental attributes of alternative transportation fuels.
